UNIVERSITY HALL AND VAN WICKLE GATES-BROWN UNIVERSITY Providence, Rhode Island
During the Revolutionary War, the hall was used as barracks, hospital, and horse stable for American and French troops. was designated a National Shrine in 1963. The Van Wickle Gates are opened only twice each academic year: in September during convocation ceremonies, and in June at the commencement procession.
