"Lima Shay"Geared Locomotive This Geared Steam Locomotive was formerly used in logging operations in the White Mountains during the early 1900's. Retired in 1952. Weight in operating order, mounted on one 50 tons. cylinder engine side. Designed for use on poor road bed, steep grades and heavy loads. The Shay Geared Loco's were manufactured in Lima, Ohio. First ones were built about 1880, and the last one in 1945. This engine Trading may be seen restored at Clark's Post, North Woodstock, N.H., on Route #3.
