INDIAN BURIAL PIT. SALINA, KANSAS
This prehistoric burial with the Indians of pit is definitely linked Coronado's time. Skeleton remains of 146 Indians are uncovered and left exactly as they were placed there many centu- ries ago, layer with upon layer, in flexed positions knees drawn up and hands resting close to their faces. Some of the skeletons measure well over six feet in height, others are of small chil- dren. The Pit is located just off Highway U. S. 40, four miles east of Salina.
