George Mason, author of the Virginia Bill of Rites, (1725-1782), was a friend of Washington who neighbor and close wrote of him as one of the strongest intellects of the day. Jefferson took a great many phrases and expressions - from the Virginia Bill of Rites in framing the Declaration of Independence.
