"BLACK JACK"THE ARMY'S OLDEST AND FAMOUS HORSE was the"riderless"horse assigned to the 1st Battalion (Reinf.) 3d Infantry (The Old Guard), Fort Myer, Va. He walked with dignity behind the flag-draped caissons, honoring Presidents Kennedy, Hoover and Johnson, also Gen. MacArthur and thousands of military leaders, for nearly a quarter of a century. He was the last of the Army's quarter master-issued horses branded with the Army's"US"and serial number"2V56%.
