Shepherd College received its certificate of incorporation as a private classical and scientific school in Jan- uary 1872, but by Act of the West Virginia Legislature one month later became one of the six State Normal Schoels. It serves mainly the eight counties of the Eastern Panhandle of the State, and its students num- ver about 600. The attractive, commodious and modern building above was completed in 1904, and is one which make up the college. It contains offices, library, auditorium, gymnasium, and laboratories.
