8 OFFICER, 1781 REGIMENT de ROYAL DEUX-PONTS Raised in 1757 in the Saar Basin of Alsace. While this was French Regiment it was mostly of Germans. It was the largest of the four French Regiments to accompany General Rocham- beau to America. They landed at Newport, June, 1780. At Yorktown they took part capture of Redoubt I No. 9. They remained in Vir- sinia until June, 1782 when they marched for soston. They embarked for the West Indies in December 1782.© K/S HISTORICAL PUBLICATIONS, Saddle River, N.
