The whaleback type of boat is gradually disappearing from the Great Lakes as they have been found more practical for ocean than for lake traffie. There are still a few left however and they are the wonder of the inland-living tourist to whom their peculiar shape is a source of amazement. Picture shows steamer whaleback and two tows being raised by the water boiling up in the lock, to the level of Lake Superior.
